A Chinese story, as told by Ram Das 1996
An old man was too frail to work in the garden so he sat on the porch. He son and his family worked the garden. The son thought about his father and decided that he was no good to anyone anymore. So he decided to toss him over the cliff.
The son got a wooden box and wheeled it up to the porch and told his father to get in. The father did. Just as the son wheeled the box to the edge of the cliff and was about to throw his father over, there was a knocking from inside the box. The father told the son that he knew what he was going to do and he understood. "But might I suggest you just throw me over the edge and keep the box. Your children will need it later on".
